It takes a certain type of enquiring mind to be a good fit with the work we do here at Space Doctors. We consist of Academics, industry trained Semioticians and people who have worked with brands and marketing, as well as people who are simply very good at what they do.

Gemma has recently joined Space Doctors as a Post Graduate Semiotician.  She has a Masters in Culture and Creative Industries from King’s College, London.  During her MA Gemma explored the field of digital ontology.   This interest in how we exist with and within technology has led her to consider implications for citizenship, the shape-shifting, intangible nature of boundaries and our sense of self and being with others in the world.

Gemma studied for her undergraduate degree at University of Southampton graduating with a first class degree in English Literature.  During her degree she specialized in Literature and Visual culture from the Middle East, Modernism and Marxism and Psychoanalysis.  Her undergraduate dissertation was entitled ‘Laughing at the Holocaust: Holocaust representation in Jewish American comedy’ and she retains an interest in deconstructing the mechanisms and functions of humour as an integral form of self-expression and cultural identity.

Gemma has worked in marketing and PR within the arts and culture sector.
