Malex specialises in applying semiotic thinking and hands-on design expertise to the optimization of visual language. A pioneer in this field, she leads the Recoding offer, which brings strategic vision and executional guidance to the process of design research and development.
Since joining Space Doctors in 2005, Malex has led the application of semiotics to design, internationally across a wide range of categories including household, luxury, skin care, feminine and health care, food, confectionery and beverages. In this capacity she works closely with brand stakeholders, in-house design teams and agency partners to assist the creation and implementation of culturally relevant visual strategies and to inspire cut-through creative work.
Malex has more than 12 years experience in this field, running projects from the conceptualisation through to actioning design, development and production both for digital and printed media. She holds a Master’s degree (Distinction) in Design and Branding Strategy from Brunel University in London and a BA degree in graphic design & visual communication from Prodiseño, the leading design school in Venezuela, where she worked subsequently as Associate Professor of Graphic Design until 2004.
In a nutshell Malex’s career so far and what she brings to Space Doctors are driven by an irresistible enthusiasm for the power of semiotics to create meaning not just analyse it.
